A milestone long overdue, James finally started clapping Saturday night. He was on the changing table getting ready for bed when he put his open palms together and then looked at me like "hey, did I just do that right?" The next day he kept clapping and looking so proud of himself when we would clap with him. I was so happy I started tearing up-- Corey thinks I'm neurotic (which I don't doubt) but clapping is a big milestone and I was getting worried that at close to 13 months he still wasn't showing any signs of doing it. Although now I'm fairly certain the hand slapping thing he's been doing for months was his own version of clapping.
And now I'm excited to get back into signing with him-- I gave up because the sign for "more" is similar to clapping (bring hands to midline in front of you) and since he wasn't getting the latter concept I figured he wouldn't get the former either. But now I think we'll work on that as well as "eat" and "drink".
Every milestone is bittersweet tho-- another chink of babyhood is falling away!
